In our last blog post, we talked about how working for a small trucking company like Eagle Logistics can be better than working for larger companies. But what do CDL trucking companies like us look for in our drivers? Well, we’re glad you asked!
There are several things that CDL trucking companies take into account when looking to hire new drivers. Those looking for a driving career at Eagle Logistics should meet the following criteria:
Have a Clean Driving Record: We can’t stress this enough. Having a clean driving record not only makes it seem as though you’re dependable, but, over the last 5-10 years the insurance companies have made their policies stricter when it comes to motor vehicle records. Being a smaller company like we are, an accident or ticket on a driver doesn’t get spread out over 2 or 3 hundred trucks. So, a ticket or accident can raise our lost run percentage by a huge amount. This leads to higher deductibles and possibly cancellation.
Know How to Properly Run E-Logs: Let’s face it - whether we like it or not, E-logs have become a big part of trucking. Our drivers must be able to properly run E-logs, because, if they don’t, it could be the difference between a good week and a bad week for the driver and the rest of the company.
Provide Outstanding Customer Service: At Eagle Logistics, our customers mean a lot to us. That’s why it’s important to be sure that all of our drivers deliver the best customer service possible. Drivers are being judged at a higher standard than ever before and their ability to make customers happy could be the difference in renewing a contract and having to go out and find different lanes to work.
Longevity: When we look for new drivers, we search for those who are looking to make a long time career with Eagle Logistics. As a small trucking company, we treat our drivers like family and want to find people who don’t want to use our company as an in-between job.
